The JBR beach may have a weird name, but is the most popular beach in Dubai. JBR stands for Jumeirah Beach Residence, the name of the high residential towers on the beach. The JBR beach is also called Marina beach, because the Dubai Marina is located behind the beach. But the local people always call it JBR beach. Along the beach are many high towers including a number of large beach hotels including the Hilton hotel. The beach is especially popular with tourists and offers views of the Palm Jumeirah and Bluewaters island with Ain Dubai, the largest Ferris wheel in the world. Access to the JBR beach is completely free and many people lie on the beach on their own towel and with their own parasol. But it is also possible to rent one of the many sun beds including a free towel and free usage of the showers. You have to rent the sunbeds by day and they are not cheap, but you can order food and drinks on your lounger. If you do not use the sunbeds you can use the clean toilets for free, but you have to pay a small fee when you want to take a shower. You can use the taps for free to wash your feet.
There are plenty of opportunities for sports activities on the JBR beach. You can rent jet skis, kayak, rent a pedal boat, surf, flyboard, parasail, paddle board, take a boat trip and go on a fishing trip yourself. And of course, the banana and the donut are not lacking: you are dragged across the sea at a string behind a boat. On the beach itself you can play volleyball using one of the volleyball nets or work out on one of the fitness machines along the promenade.
The JBR beach is very suitable for families with kids. The beach gradually runs into the sea and the children can safely walk into the sea. But be warned of the current and be careful that the kids don’t go too far into the sea as they can be pulled into the sea. In front of the beach there is an inflatable play paradise located in the sea where children can play against payment. In addition to playing in the sea, children can do much more on the beach: there are playgrounds, trampolines and they can take a round trip on the beach on a camel. At the shops along the JBR beach you can buy beach toys, ice cream and slush puppies.
The JBR beach is located along The Beach, a long beach promenade full of shops, restaurants, markets, stalls and a cinema. You will find stores of famous brands such as Adidas, Lacoste, Victoria’s Secret, Roberto Cavalli, Sephora and River Island. In addition, on the beach you can easily go for something to eat or drink along the beach. Especially in the evening many people come to the JBR beach for dinner. You will find a wide choice of international cuisines with restaurants from India, Greece, America and Japan and much more. Football fans or lovers of Spanish cuisine can go to Real Madrid Cafe.
Tip: you can take a boat trip from the Dubai Marina through the Dubai Marina and to the sea in front of the beach. Here you will have a spectacular view at the beautifully illuminated skyscrapers along the beach in the evening. Various boat trips are offered including a boat trip on a traditional Dhow with dinner or a speed boat.
