You will find a large number of attractions and sights in Dubai which will easily keep you busy for weeks if you want to visit them all. But still there are a number of good reasons to leave Dubai for a day and join an excursion outside the city.
To Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE
The capital city of the United Arab Emirates is only an hour’s drive from Dubai and can easily be visited in a day. There are many travel organizations in Dubai that offer organized tours to Abu Dhabi, including the Big Bus Dubai and City Sightseeing Dubai. Abu Dhabi is definitely worth a visit, because you will find some interesting museums and sights over there. The most famous landmark is the imposing Sheik Zayed Mosque, the largest mosque in the United Arab Emirates. You can also find annexes of the world famous museums Louvre and the Guggenheim in Abu Dhabi. And just like in Dubai you can also find several amusement parks in Abu Dhabi, including Ferrari World, Yas Waterworld and soon Sea World. Ferrari World is an indoor theme park that is all about the Ferrari car brand. If you want to see everything in Abu Dhabi, you probably have to stay overnight, but it’s also doable to visit Abu Dhabi on a day trip.
Discover the nature of the UAE in Hatta
At about an hour’s drive from Dubai you will find Hatta, a beautiful nature reserve where you can make beautiful walks. Hatta is located in a mountain area and between the mountains you will find a lot of green and serene lakes with crystal clear water. Hatta offers many hiking trails but also a special trail for mountain bikers, which leads to a special place where you can see ancient houses and a fort. Besides hiking and mountain biking you can also camp in Hatta or stay overnight in a luxury hotel. There are several organized trips to Hatta from Dubai. It’s recommended to join one of these tours, because Hatta is still untouched and you won’t find a lot of facilities for tourists.
Looking for culture in Sharjah
Right next to the old center of Dubai you will find the emirate Sharjah with the capital of the same name. Sharjah is easily accessible from Dubai, but is very different from Dubai. Sharjah is mainly known as a cultural city and you will find several beautiful museums. You can join one of the city walks along all the beautiful places in the city. In Dubai you can find the impressive Ain Dubai ferris wheel, but Sharjah also offers a huge ferris wheel with a wonderful view, called the Eye of the Emirates. In addition you can find a large shopping center in Sharjah, a planetarium and beautiful beaches where you can dive and snorkel.
